YOUNG LAWYERS ORATORY COMPETITION!

WIN A RETURN FLIGHT TO AND A WEEKEND’S ACCOMMODATION IN A EUROPEAN CITY!

The European Bars Federation (FBE)’s Vth annual oratory competition for young lawyers will take place from Friday 6 September 2024 to Sunday 8 September 2024.

 To enter the first/South London stage of the competition, you need to –

  1. be a South London lawyer or law student under 35 years of age;
  2. prepare a 5 minute speech on, “What impact can legislation and litigation have on climate change?
  3. record your presentation of the speech and WhatsApp us the recording.

Up to two speakers will proceed to the next/European stage of the competition in Europe (exact city TBC shortly), and their return flights and the weekend’s accommodation will be paid for.

The speaker/s will further receive one-on-one coaching from experienced lawyers to prepare for the competition.

During the competition in Europe, contestants will present their pre-prepared 10 minute speeches on “What impact can legislation and litigation have on climate change?” to an international jury with other participants from different European countries.

The four best contestants selected by the jury will defend a position against an opponent on another topic the following day.

The competition is a great opportunity for:

  •  practicing and improving oratory skills
  •  learning to present a case to an international audience of lawyers
  •  developing advocacy and public speaking skills
  •  meeting young lawyers from jurisdictions across Europe

LawWorks is a charity which connects volunteer lawyers and the not-for-profit organisations that support them with people in need of legal advice who are not eligible for legal aid and cannot afford to pay.

On 9 May 2024, LawWorks is hosting  an event led by the Attorney General and held at the House of Lords which celebrates pro bono contributions of students across the country.
